Editing Track Details
When you need to make changes to a single track, the detail modal is your go-to interface. It brings together everything about a track — name, stage, tags, collaborators, file locations, and more — into one organized panel. Whether you want to rename a song, update its workflow stage, or add a collaborator, you can do it all without leaving the page.
This guide walks you through opening the detail modal, understanding what you see, and making your changes stick.
Opening the Track Detail Modal
Section titled “Opening the Track Detail Modal”You can open the detail modal for any track in a few ways:
- Double-click a track row in the grid
- Single-click to select the track, then press Enter
- Click the pencil icon that appears when you hover over a track
The modal slides in from the right side of the screen, overlaying the tracks grid. It stays open while you work, so you can reference other information on the page behind it.
To close the modal, press Escape, click the X button in the top-right corner, or click outside the modal area.
Layout of the Detail Modal
Section titled “Layout of the Detail Modal”The modal is organized into collapsible sections, so you see the most important information first and can expand deeper details as needed.
Header Area
Section titled “Header Area”At the very top, you see:
- Track artwork — a large preview image, or a generated gradient if no artwork exists
- Track name — displayed in title case (e.g., “Summer Vibes V3 Final”)
- Owner badge — confirms who owns this track
- Quick-action buttons — for playing the track, favouriting it, or opening the sharing menu
Default View (Collapsed Sections)
Section titled “Default View (Collapsed Sections)”When you first open the modal, several sections appear collapsed to keep the interface clean:
- Status & Stage — shows current workflow position
- Tags — displays any tags applied to the track
- Collaborators — lists everyone with access
- Files & Paths — shows Dropbox locations for bounces, projects, and stems
- Sharing — manage who can see and edit the track
Click any section header to expand it and reveal the editable fields.
Editing Track Information
Section titled “Editing Track Information”Changing the Track Name
Section titled “Changing the Track Name”The track name appears in the header area and is editable directly. Click on the name text to activate the input field.
When you type a new name, the app remembers your change — even if you close and reopen the modal later. Your custom name won’t be overwritten by automatic sync operations from Dropbox.
If you never edited the name manually, the app derives it from the latest bounce or project file in Dropbox. For example, a file named “MY_NEW_SONG_V3_FINAL.wav” would display as “My New Song V3 Final”.
Updating Status and Stage
Section titled “Updating Status and Stage”Workflow stages help you track where a song is in your production pipeline — from initial idea through editing, mixing, and final release.
Expand the Status & Stage section to see:
- Stage selector — a dropdown or progress indicator showing the current stage (Idea, Recording, Editing, Mixing, Mastered, Ready to Post, Published)
- Due date picker — set an optional deadline for the track
- Excitement level — a 0–100 slider indicating how excited you feel about this track right now
Click any of these fields to change them. Your changes save automatically when you click away or close the modal.
Managing Tags
Section titled “Managing Tags”Tags help you organize tracks beyond the standard workflow stages. You might use tags like “Pop”, “Guitar-driven”, “Needs Vocals”, or “Top Pick”.
Expand the Tags section to:
- View current tags — displayed as coloured pills below the section header
- Add new tags — click the ”+” button or start typing in the tag input to search existing tags or create new ones
- Remove tags — click the X on any tag pill to remove it
Tags are shared across your entire library, so when you add a tag to one track, it becomes available for all other tracks too.
Working with Collaborators
Section titled “Working with Collaborators”The Collaborators section shows everyone who has access to this track. You’ll see:
- Avatar circles — profile pictures or initials for each collaborator, with the owner always listed first
- Role indicators — whether each person is an owner, editor, or viewer
- Add button — invite new collaborators by email
To add a collaborator, click the Add Collaborator button and enter their email address. They receive an invitation to access the track’s Dropbox folder.
To remove a collaborator, click the options menu (three dots) next to their name and select Remove Access.
Viewing File Paths
Section titled “Viewing File Paths”Expand the Files & Paths section to see where your audio lives in Dropbox:
- Bounce files — the exported audio versions (WAV, MP3, and so on)
- Project files — your DAW sessions (Ableton Live .als, Logic .logicx, and so on)
- Stems — individual instrument stems if you’ve organized them separately
Each file shows its Dropbox path and the date it was last modified. You can click any file to open it in your browser or download it directly.
Saving Your Changes
Section titled “Saving Your Changes”Most changes in the detail modal save automatically. When you edit a field and click away, the app immediately syncs your change to the database.
For the track name specifically, a small “Saving…” indicator appears briefly, then confirms with a checkmark. This tells you the name has been locked in and won’t be overwritten by future Dropbox syncs.
[!TIP] If you’re editing many tracks at once, consider using Bulk Editing instead of the detail modal. Select multiple tracks in the grid, right-click, and choose Edit Selected to change stages, tags, or buckets for everything in one go.
Tips for Efficient Editing
Section titled “Tips for Efficient Editing”- Use keyboard shortcuts — press E when a track is selected to open the detail modal without reaching for your mouse
- Collapse unused sections — keeping only the sections you need open makes the modal less cluttered and faster to navigate
- Batch similar changes — if you need to update the same field across many tracks, use the tracks grid’s multi-select feature instead of opening each modal individually
- Watch for sync indicators — the modal shows a subtle spinner when Dropbox content is being refreshed, so you know when file information is up to date
