Using Tags
Tags help you categorize and find your tracks without digging through folders or relying on filename conventions. Whether you need to mark songs as “Ready for Mixing,” flag a track as “Client Approved,” or group tracks by genre, tags give you a flexible way to stay organized.
How Tags Work
Section titled “How Tags Work”Tags are short labels you attach to tracks. Each tag belongs to a category that groups similar tags together — for example, a “Workflow Status” category might contain tags like “Idea,” “In Progress,” and “Ready to Post,” while a “Genre” category could hold “Electronic,” “Hip-Hop,” and “Ambient.”
When you select a track in the grid, you’ll see its current tags displayed as colored pills in the activity panel. Tags appear alongside other metadata like stage, collaborators, and due date, giving you a complete picture of each track at a glance.
Adding Tags to a Track
Section titled “Adding Tags to a Track”When you open a track’s detail panel, the tag section lets you add new labels in seconds.
Step-by-Step
Section titled “Step-by-Step”- Select the track in the grid so its details appear in the activity panel
- Find the Tags section — you’ll see any existing tags displayed as colored pills, or a “No tags” message if the track is untagged
- Click the input field labeled “Add tag…” and type your tag name
- Press Enter or click the “Add” button
The tag appears immediately as a pill with the tag name and a small × icon. If the tag already exists in your library, it’s linked to your track. If it’s a new tag, it’s created and saved for future use.
What Happens Behind the Scenes
Section titled “What Happens Behind the Scenes”When you add a tag, the system checks whether a matching tag already exists in your library. If it finds one, that existing tag gets attached to your track. If no match exists, a new custom tag is created and automatically linked to the appropriate category.
System tags — the default labels that come with Producer Dashboard — are available to all users and cannot be deleted. Your custom tags belong to you and can be edited or removed whenever you like.
Removing Tags from a Track
Section titled “Removing Tags from a Track”To remove a tag, find the × icon on the tag pill and click it.
The tag disappears from the track immediately. This removes only the association between the tag and the track — it doesn’t delete the tag from your library entirely. Other tracks can still use that tag.
If you want to delete a tag completely so it no longer appears in your tag library, you can manage your tags from the Tags & Categories settings.
Viewing Tags in the Track Grid
Section titled “Viewing Tags in the Track Grid”The track grid can display tags directly on each track card, giving you a quick visual overview without opening individual tracks.
When tags are enabled for grid display, you’ll see small colored badges on track cards showing the most relevant or recently added tags. This is especially helpful when you’re scanning through a large library looking for tracks with specific characteristics.
Filtering by Tags
Section titled “Filtering by Tags”Once you’ve tagged your tracks, you can use those tags as filters to find exactly what you need.
From the main Tracks view, open the filter panel and select one or more tags. The grid updates to show only tracks matching your selection. You can combine tag filters with other criteria like stage, date range, or collaborator to narrow down your results precisely.
For example, you might filter by the “Client Approved” tag combined with the “Ready to Post” stage to see exactly which tracks are waiting to be published.
Tips for Effective Tagging
Section titled “Tips for Effective Tagging”Understanding System vs. Custom Tags
Section titled “Understanding System vs. Custom Tags”Producer Dashboard includes built-in system tags that represent common workflow states and attributes. These tags appear in every user’s library by default and are color-coded to match their category.
Your custom tags are private to your account unless you share them through a project. When you delete a custom tag, it’s removed from all tracks that used it — the tag associations disappear but the tracks themselves remain unchanged.
