Musical Attributes Widget

The Musical Attributes widget lives in the Activity Panel and gives you a quick way to view and edit the essential musical details of your tracks. Think of it as your track’s musical ID card — key signature, tempo, genre, mood, and registration codes all in one place.

When you select a track, this widget pulls together information that helps you keep your catalog organized and properly registered for distribution.

When you select a single track, you’ll see a grid of color-coded attribute pills organized into two sections.

Core musical attributes:

  • Key — the musical key signature (e.g., C major, F# minor)
  • BPM — tempo in beats per minute
  • Genre — the musical style you’ve tagged (Electronic, Hip-Hop, Pop)
  • Mood — the emotional character (Uplifting, Dark, Chill)

Registration and metadata:

  • Artist — the credited performer name
  • Album — the album or project the track belongs to
  • ISRC — International Standard Recording Code (unique track identifier)
  • ISWC — International Standard Musical Work Code (for compositions)
  • Territory — release territory (Worldwide, US-only, etc.)
  • Duration — track length in minutes and seconds

Each attribute appears as a colored pill. The colors help you scan the widget quickly — purple for key, blue for BPM, orange for genre, and so on. If a field hasn’t been filled in yet, you’ll see it marked as “Not set” in muted text.

By default, the widget displays all attributes in a clean, read-only view. This lets you quickly check a track’s details without accidentally changing anything.

Click the Edit Attributes button at the bottom of the widget. The view transforms into a form with input fields for each attribute. You’ll see dropdowns for the key signature (organized by root note and mode) and text inputs for everything else.

Make your changes, then click Save Changes to persist them. If you change your mind, click Cancel to discard your edits and return to view mode.

You cannot edit attributes on tracks that have been shared with you by collaborators. The Edit Attributes button appears faded and disabled on shared tracks, with a tooltip explaining why.

When you select two or more tracks in the grid, the widget adapts to show summary information. Rather than displaying individual fields, you’ll see aggregated or mixed indicators:

  • Mixed values appear when the selected tracks have different key signatures, BPMs, or other attributes
  • Consistent values display when all selected tracks share the same attribute

This helps you quickly see whether a group of tracks is musically cohesive or if some attributes need to be standardized before release.

Below the attribute fields, you’ll find an Analyze button. This triggers automatic detection of musical attributes by analyzing your track’s audio file directly in your browser.

The analysis extracts:

  • Key signature — detected using harmonic analysis of the audio
  • BPM — tempo detected from beat patterns

This is useful when you want accurate tempo information for tracks imported from other DAWs or recorded externally, where metadata might be missing or incorrect.

When you click Analyze, the widget scans your track’s audio files to detect musical properties. The detected key and BPM are then written back to your track’s attributes automatically.

The button is disabled for shared tracks, since you don’t have permission to modify attributes on tracks owned by others.

The widget uses consistent colors to categorize attributes at a glance:
