Tags Widget
The tags widget lives in the activity panel and gives you a powerful way to categorize your music. Whether you’re marking tracks as “Radio Ready,” “Needs Vocals,” or “Client Review,” tags help you stay organized as your catalog grows.
When you select tracks in the grid, this widget lets you view existing tags, apply them to your selection, create new ones on the fly, and save everything with a single click.
Getting Started
Section titled “Getting Started”Select one or more tracks from your grid to open the activity panel. The tags widget displays at the top of the panel, showing all available tags organized by category.
If you haven’t selected any tracks, the widget shows a friendly prompt: “Select tracks to manage tags.” Once you click a track, the widget springs to life with your tag library.
The interface has three main areas:
- Search bar at the top for finding tags quickly
- Scrollable tag grid showing categories and individual tags
- Save button fixed at the bottom to commit your changes
Tag Categories
Section titled “Tag Categories”Tags are grouped by category to keep things manageable. Each category appears as a section with a colored dot indicator and a bold label. The categories are sorted by their predefined order in your tag library.
Within each category, tags appear as pill-shaped buttons. Selected tags are highlighted with their category color, showing a checkmark icon on the left. Unselected tags appear in a muted gray style.
The colored dots and tag highlights match the color you assigned to each category when setting up your tag system. This makes it easy to scan and find tags from the same group.
Searching for Tags
Section titled “Searching for Tags”The search bar at the top does double duty. Type any text to filter tags across all categories. As you type, the widget instantly filters and shows only tags whose names match your query.
The search is case-insensitive, so searching for “radio” finds “Radio Ready” and “radio” equally.
Creating Tags on the Fly
Section titled “Creating Tags on the Fly”Here’s where it gets useful. If you type a tag name that doesn’t exist yet, the widget shows a blue “Create” button directly below the search bar. Click it to instantly create a custom tag with that name.
This is perfect for those moments when you’re working and realize you need a tag that isn’t in your library yet. No need to leave the widget and dig through settings — create it right there and apply it immediately.
Applying Tags to Tracks
Section titled “Applying Tags to Tracks”Click any tag button to toggle its selection state. When you select a tag, it lights up with the category color and a checkmark appears. Click it again to deselect.
Single track selection — when one track is selected, selecting a tag applies it directly to that track. Your changes are tracked internally, and the save button becomes active.
Multiple track selection — when you select multiple tracks, the widget intelligently shows which tags are shared across all selected tracks. Tags applied to every selected track appear selected. Tags only on some tracks remain unselected, letting you know which ones need a bulk update.
A blue info banner appears when multiple tracks are selected, showing the track count and explaining the bulk apply behavior.
Saving Your Changes
Section titled “Saving Your Changes”When you’ve made changes to tag assignments, the save button at the bottom turns green and reads “Save Tag Changes.” Click it to commit your updates.
The widget uses optimistic updates, meaning your changes appear immediately in the interface. The actual save happens in the background. If something goes wrong, the widget gracefully rolls back your changes and shows an error message.
If you haven’t made any changes, the save button stays grayed out with “No Changes” — a visual cue that there’s nothing to commit.
Deleting Custom Tags
Section titled “Deleting Custom Tags”Custom tags you create show a small red X button in their top-right corner. Click this X to delete the tag entirely.
Deleting a custom tag removes it from your library and all tracks that use it. System tags (tags created by your organization) don’t show this delete button, keeping them protected.
Managing Your Tag Library
Section titled “Managing Your Tag Library”At the bottom of the widget, a “Manage Tags” link takes you directly to the Tags section in Settings. From there, you can create new categories, rename tags, reorder them, change colors, and handle more advanced tag management.
