Sharing Widget
The sharing widget lives in the activity panel and gives you everything you need to distribute your tracks to collaborators through Dropbox. Whether you’re working on a single song with a vocalist or managing a whole album rollout with multiple contributors, this widget handles the handoff.
The widget shows different options depending on who you are relative to the track — as an owner, you control who sees the files. As a collaborator, you can see what’s been shared but you can’t initiate new shares.
What You’ll See When You Select a Track
Section titled “What You’ll See When You Select a Track”When you click a track in your grid and open the activity panel, the sharing widget displays at a glance whether your files have been distributed to collaborators.
For track owners, the widget shows your collaborator list with status indicators next to each name:
- A filled dot means that collaborator has access to the shared Dropbox folder
- An empty dot means that collaborator hasn’t received access yet
- A green confirmation badge appears when all collaborators have been granted access
For collaborators (editors and viewers), the widget shows a lock icon with a message explaining that only the track owner can manage sharing. You’ll also see an option to leave the collaboration if you no longer want access to the track.
If you haven’t added any collaborators to the track yet, the widget displays a friendly prompt suggesting you invite team members before you can share anything.
Sharing Files with Collaborators
Section titled “Sharing Files with Collaborators”When you’re the owner and ready to send your files to collaborators, the process is straightforward.
Click the Share Folder button to start. The widget organizes your files in Dropbox using the track hierarchy structure and creates a shared Dropbox folder. Collaborators receive access through their own Dropbox accounts, making it easy for them to download bounces, stems, or project files directly.
If your track uses a simpler file structure, the button says Share Files instead. This shares individual files directly with collaborators via Dropbox rather than creating a folder hierarchy.
After you click, the widget updates to show the new sharing status. You see a confirmation message with the Dropbox folder path displayed in a copyable code block. Two quick-action buttons appear:
- Copy — copies the folder path to your clipboard so you can paste it in a message or Slack
- View — opens the Dropbox folder directly in your browser so you can inspect what’s been shared
Collaborator Status Indicators
Section titled “Collaborator Status Indicators”The sharing widget gives you a clear picture of who’s been granted access. When you view a track with multiple collaborators, you see each person’s name and email alongside their sharing status.
This becomes especially useful when you’re working with a larger team. You might have sent stems to your mixer but haven’t yet shared the project file with your graphic designer. The status indicators make it obvious who’s been included and who hasn’t.
If some collaborators have access and others don’t, the widget shows a Share with remaining button that lets you extend access to just the people who are still waiting. This saves you from re-sharing the entire track unnecessarily.
Bulk Sharing Multiple Tracks
Section titled “Bulk Sharing Multiple Tracks”Need to share an entire batch of songs with your team? Select multiple tracks in your grid and the sharing widget switches to bulk mode.
The widget displays the number of tracks you’ve selected and lists the first three track names. Below that, an info card explains what will happen:
- Each track shares with its own collaborators (not a combined folder)
- Tracks without collaborators get skipped automatically
- Tracks that are already fully shared get skipped
- All files associated with each track — bounces, stems, projects — get shared
Click Share All with Collaborators to kick off the process. A progress indicator appears showing you which track is currently being processed. The widget completes each share sequentially, so you can see the status update track by track.
This is particularly handy during album delivery. Instead of opening each track individually and sharing, you select the whole batch and let the widget work through them one by one.
Leaving a Collaboration
Section titled “Leaving a Collaboration”If you’ve been added to someone else’s track as an editor or viewer, the sharing widget shows your access level but doesn’t let you initiate shares — that’s the owner’s responsibility.
At the bottom of the widget, you’ll find a Leave Collaboration button with a brief explanation that this removes your access to the shared track. This is useful when a project wraps up and you no longer need to monitor it, or if you were added by mistake.
-
Share early in your workflow — get collaborators set up before you need to send files, so the sharing widget is ready when you are
-
Use bulk sharing for album sessions — select all tracks for a recording session and share them at once rather than doing each one manually
-
Check status before re-sharing — the widget shows you exactly which collaborators have access, so you can target just the people who are missing before doing a full re-share
-
Copy the Dropbox link — the copy button saves you from manually selecting the path when you need to paste it somewhere
