The Waveform Player

The Waveform Player is a floating audio control bar that lives at the bottom of your screen. It appears whenever you select and start playing a track, giving you instant access to playback controls, volume adjustment, progress scrubbing, and more — without leaving your current view.

Once activated, the player slides up from the bottom of the screen and stays visible while you browse your projects, check out other tracks, or manage your workflow.

When you click on any track in your grid, the player becomes active. The track information appears on the left side of the player bar, showing the track name, artist, and a colorful artwork thumbnail. Click the large play button in the center to start listening.

The player automatically detects the correct audio file to play, whether it’s a full bounce, stem, or alternate version. It handles common audio formats like WAV, MP3, FLAC, AIFF, and M4A seamlessly.

The Waveform Player checks several sources to locate your audio file:

  • The track’s direct audio file attachment
  • The bounce file stored in your Audio Bounces folder
  • The original project file’s bounce output

If a track has multiple versions or stems available, the player intelligently selects the primary bounce unless you specify otherwise.

The center section of the Waveform Player houses your main playback controls.

From left to right, you’ll find:

  • Shuffle — Randomizes the playback order of your queue
  • Previous — Jumps to the previous track in the queue
  • Play/Pause — Toggles playback on and off (also responds to the spacebar on your keyboard)
  • Next — Skips ahead to the next track
  • Repeat — Cycles through repeat modes (off, repeat all, repeat one)

The play and pause buttons are visually distinct — the play button is solid with a rounded shape, while pause shows parallel lines. They swap automatically based on the current playback state.

Beneath the transport buttons sits the progress bar. Drag the slider left to rewind or right to fast-forward through the track. Time stamps on either end show your current position and the total duration, displayed as minutes and seconds (for example, “1:24 / 3:47”).

When you drag the progress slider, the audio jumps to that position immediately, giving you precise control over where you’re listening.

The right side of the Waveform Player gives you quick access to volume adjustments.

A horizontal slider lets you set your playback volume from 0% to 100%. The default volume starts at 80%, which is loud enough to hear clearly while leaving headroom.

Click the speaker icon to mute your audio completely. Click it again to restore your previous volume level. This is useful when you need to quickly silence playback to talk to someone or check an external reference.

Your queue is the list of tracks that will play next. When you start playing a track, it becomes the first item in your queue, and any tracks you add afterwards line up behind it.

Click the queue icon (it looks like a list with lines) to see all tracks currently waiting to play. The queue panel slides open, showing track names, artists, and durations.

From the queue panel, you can:

  • Drag tracks to reorder them
  • Remove individual tracks by clicking an X button
  • Clear the entire queue at once

When a track finishes playing, the next item in your queue automatically starts, so you can queue up multiple tracks for uninterrupted listening during review sessions.

The Waveform Player responds to keyboard controls so you can manage playback without touching your mouse.

KeyAction
SpacebarPlay or pause the current track
Left ArrowRewind 5 seconds
Right ArrowFast-forward 5 seconds
Up ArrowIncrease volume by 10%
Down ArrowDecrease volume by 10%

These shortcuts work even when the player isn’t focused, making them handy during creative sessions when your hands are already on the keyboard.

Click the X button in the top-right corner of the Waveform Player to stop playback and dismiss the player bar. The player slides back down and disappears from view. Your audio stops completely, and the queue is cleared.

To bring the player back, simply click on any track in your grid again.

Audio won’t play: Check that your track has an attached audio file or bounce. Projects without audio output won’t trigger playback.

Progress bar won’t drag: Wait a moment for the audio to fully load before attempting to scrub. The slider becomes active once the track is ready.

Wrong track playing: Your queue might still contain tracks from a previous session. Click the queue icon and clear it before starting fresh.
