Getting Started
Welcome to Producer Dashboard — the desktop app built for music producers who need to stay organized across multiple projects, collaborators, and delivery deadlines.
Whether you’re a solo artist managing your own catalog or part of a team passing stems back and forth, Producer Dashboard gives you a single place to track everything: bounces, stems, project files, feedback, and final deliveries.
This guide walks you through what the app does, how to set it up, and where to find the features you’ll use most.
What Is Producer Dashboard?
Section titled “What Is Producer Dashboard?”At its core, Producer Dashboard is a local file management tool that connects to your Dropbox and gives you a visual interface for your music projects.
Instead of digging through nested folders to find that one stem from three weeks ago, you see everything in a searchable grid. You can filter by workflow stage, project bucket, collaborator, or tags. You can attach project files from your DAW, leave comments for collaborators, and track which versions are current.
The app runs on your computer but syncs with Dropbox in the background. Your files stay local, but your organization lives in the cloud.
Setting Up for the First Time
Section titled “Setting Up for the First Time”Getting started takes a few minutes. Here’s the order we recommend:
- Download and install the app for your operating system
- Create your account or sign in if you already have one
- Connect your Dropbox — this is where your music files live
- Run your first import to bring existing files into the dashboard
- Take a quick tour of the main interface
Each step has its own detailed guide — you’ll find links in the section below.
Key Concepts
Section titled “Key Concepts”Before diving in, it helps to understand a few terms used throughout the app.
Track Groups
Section titled “Track Groups”A track group is a collection of related files for a single song. It typically contains your bounces, stems, project file, and any reference tracks. When you import audio files, the app groups them together automatically based on filename patterns.
Workflows and Stages
Section titled “Workflows and Stages”Every track moves through a workflow — a customizable pipeline of stages representing your production process. Default stages include Idea, Recording, Editing, Mixing, Ready to Post, and Published. You can customize these to match how you actually work.
The stage tells you where a track currently sits in your pipeline. You can update it directly from the grid view using the inline dropdown.
Buckets
Section titled “Buckets”Buckets are like playlists or project folders. They let you organize tracks by album, client, release, or any category you choose. Assigning a track to a bucket keeps your grid tidy and makes filtering easy.
Collaborators
Section titled “Collaborators”You can invite other Producer Dashboard users to work on your tracks. Each collaborator has a split percentage that tracks ownership — useful when multiple people contribute to a song and revenue sharing matters.
The Main Interface
Section titled “The Main Interface”When you open the app, you’ll see a few key areas:
- Track Grid — the main view showing all your tracks as cards or rows. You can switch between grid and table view using the toggle in the toolbar.
- Activity Panel — a collapsible sidebar on the right. It shows the selected track’s overview, comments, to-dos, and recent activity.
- Player Controls — audio playback controls live in a persistent bar at the bottom of the window. Select a track and hit play to preview.
- Toolbar — the top bar gives you access to filters, search, saved views, and settings.
Importing Your Files
Section titled “Importing Your Files”The first time you launch the app, you’ll want to import your existing music files. The app scans your connected Dropbox folder and automatically groups files by song name.
When files are imported, the app generates waveform previews so you can see the shape of each track at a glance. It also extracts metadata from filenames — things like version names (e.g., “vocals_v3”) are recognized automatically.
If you prefer to keep your files entirely local, you can use the local import mode instead of connecting to Dropbox. This bypasses cloud sync for a fully offline workflow.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Section titled “Keyboard Shortcuts”Producer Dashboard supports keyboard shortcuts to keep your hands on the keyboard while you work. The most useful ones to remember:
- Spacebar — play or pause the selected track
- Arrow keys — navigate between tracks
- Cmd/Ctrl + S — save current view or selection
- Cmd/Ctrl + F — focus the search bar
- Escape — close any open modal or panel
You can view and customize all shortcuts in Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts.
Syncing and Real-Time Updates
Section titled “Syncing and Real-Time Updates”If you work across multiple devices or collaborate with others, you’ll appreciate the real-time sync feature. When a collaborator updates a track’s stage or adds a comment, the changes appear in your app instantly — no refresh needed.
The app checks your Dropbox for changes periodically and updates your track list automatically. You can also trigger a manual sync from the toolbar.
Customizing Your Experience
Section titled “Customizing Your Experience”Producer Dashboard adapts to how you work. From Settings, you can:
- Toggle play-on-select to automatically preview tracks when you click them
- Resize and reorder columns in table view, with your preferences saved
- Switch between light and dark themes
- Configure your default Dropbox import folder
- Set up local storage if you prefer not to use Dropbox
