Connecting Dropbox

Dropbox is the backbone of how you share tracks and stems with collaborators in Producer Dashboard. Before you can generate share links or invite other producers to your projects, you need to connect a Dropbox account.

This guide walks you through linking your Dropbox, understanding what gets created in your account, and managing the connection over time.

Without a connected Dropbox account, several key collaboration features won’t work. Here’s what becomes possible once you link your account:

  • Share links — Generate temporary download URLs for any track, stem, or bounce you want to share
  • Collaborator access — Invite other Producer Dashboard users to specific folders in your Dropbox
  • ZIP downloads — Package multiple files together for easy sharing
  • Team folder mounting — Automatically accept shared folders on business Dropbox accounts

Think of Dropbox as your collaboration hub. Producer Dashboard handles your project management and workflow, while Dropbox handles the actual file distribution to collaborators.

Connecting Dropbox uses a secure OAuth flow — the same method most apps use when asking for access to your account. You’ll never enter your Dropbox password directly into Producer Dashboard.

Click the Settings gear icon in the left sidebar, then select Connected Accounts from the settings menu.

Locate the Dropbox section. If you haven’t connected yet, you’ll see a “Connect” button instead of account details.

Click Connect Dropbox. A popup window appears asking you to sign in to Dropbox and grant permissions. The permissions requested include:

  • Reading and writing files in your Dropbox
  • Creating shared links
  • Viewing your account information

Click Allow to complete the connection. The popup closes, and your Dropbox account details appear in the Connected Accounts section.

When you connect for the first time, Producer Dashboard automatically creates a folder structure in your Dropbox to keep things organized. You’ll see these folders appear:

/PRODUCER-DASHBOARD/
/projects/
/bounces/
/stems/
  • projects — Stores project files and stems shared with you
  • bounces — Contains finalized mixes and bounced audio files
  • stems — Holds individual track stems and stems packages

If you have a Dropbox Business or team account, the structure adapts to include your team home path (for example, /Your Name/PRODUCER-DASHBOARD/...). This ensures your Producer Dashboard files appear in the correct location within your team’s Dropbox.

After connecting, the Connected Accounts page shows your Dropbox status at a glance:

  • Connection state — Shows whether your Dropbox is currently linked
  • Account type — Displays “Personal” or your team name
  • Folder path — Shows where your Producer Dashboard folder lives in Dropbox
  • Token status — Indicates whether the connection needs refreshing

If you see a warning that your token has expired, don’t panic. The connection can usually be refreshed automatically when you next try to use sharing features. If problems persist, disconnecting and reconnecting your Dropbox resolves most issues.

Once your Dropbox is linked, sharing becomes straightforward. When you click “Share” on any track in your dashboard, Producer Dashboard generates a temporary download link using your Dropbox account.

Your collaborators receive a link that lets them download the file directly from your Dropbox. These links are time-limited for security, so they’re only active for a few hours before expiring.

For larger sharing workflows — like sending full project folders to frequent collaborators — you can invite them to specific folders in your Dropbox directly from the Collaborators panel.

If you no longer want Producer Dashboard to have access to your Dropbox, you can remove the connection at any time.

Go to Settings > Connected Accounts, find the Dropbox section, and click Disconnect. This immediately revokes Producer Dashboard’s access to your Dropbox account.

To reconnect, simply click Connect Dropbox again. Your Dropbox folder structure and any files already shared remain intact — you’ll just be reauthorizing the app to access them.

  • Keep files organized — Producer Dashboard creates the main folders automatically, but you can add subfolders inside /projects/ and /stems/ to match your own workflow
  • Check team permissions — If you’re on Dropbox Teams, ensure your team admin has granted the necessary permissions for folder creation
  • Monitor shared links — Remember that share links expire after a few hours; regenerate them if collaborators need more time
  • Refresh connections periodically — If you haven’t used sharing features in a while, check your connection status before starting a new collaboration session
