Dropbox for Teams

Dropbox integration is at the heart of how Producer Dashboard handles file sharing. Whether you’re sending stems to a collaborator, packaging a bounce for client review, or accepting shared projects from teammates, Dropbox makes it happen behind the scenes.

This page explains what Dropbox does in Producer Dashboard, how the folder structure works, and how to manage your connection.

When you use Producer Dashboard, all your audio files are stored locally on your computer. However, when you want to share those files with others, Dropbox steps in as the delivery mechanism.

Without a connected Dropbox account, you won’t be able to:

  • Generate share links for collaborators
  • Download ZIP packages of your stems and bounces
  • Invite collaborators to shared folders
  • Receive shared projects from teammates

Think of it this way: your computer holds your music, and Dropbox handles the handoff to everyone else.

When you connect your Dropbox for the first time, Producer Dashboard automatically creates a folder structure to keep your projects organized. This happens silently in the background — you don’t need to set anything up manually.

For personal Dropbox accounts, the structure looks like this:

/PRODUCER-DASHBOARD
├── /projects
├── /bounces
└── /stems

For team/business accounts, it includes your account prefix:

/Your Name/PRODUCER-DASHBOARD
├── /projects
├── /bounces
└── /stems

Producer Dashboard uses these folders when creating share links and packaging downloads. The app handles folder creation automatically, so you can start sharing right away.

Connecting Dropbox happens through a secure OAuth flow — the same standard that most apps use when asking for permission to access your account.

  1. Go to Settings in Producer Dashboard
  2. Click Connected Accounts in the sidebar
  3. Find the Dropbox section and click Connect
  4. Sign in to Dropbox if prompted and grant permission

You’ll see a confirmation when the connection is successful. Your Dropbox email and account type (personal or team) will display in the settings panel.

Producer Dashboard works with both personal and business Dropbox accounts. The main difference is how your folder path is constructed.

Personal accounts use the standard Dropbox root. Your shared files appear under /PRODUCER-DASHBOARD.

Team accounts (Dropbox Business or Dropbox Professional) include your team folder prefix in the path. This ensures your files stay organized within your team’s Dropbox structure and follow any team sharing policies in place.

The app automatically detects your account type during the OAuth flow and configures the correct folder paths for you.

Once connected, you can view your Dropbox status and account details in the Connected Accounts section of your settings.

The Dropbox card shows:

  • Whether your account is currently connected
  • Your Dropbox email address
  • Your account type (personal or team)
  • The folder path where Producer Dashboard stores your files
  • Token expiration status (for security, Dropbox tokens periodically expire and refresh automatically)

If you no longer want Producer Dashboard to have access to your Dropbox:

  1. Go to SettingsConnected Accounts
  2. Click Disconnect next to your Dropbox account
  3. Confirm the action

Disconnecting removes all stored Dropbox tokens from Producer Dashboard. You can reconnect at any time by going through the OAuth flow again. Note that disconnecting does not delete any files from your actual Dropbox — it only removes the app’s access.

With your Dropbox connected, sharing becomes straightforward. When you create a share link for a track or package a ZIP download, Producer Dashboard uses your Dropbox credentials to generate temporary download links.

These share links are time-limited for security — collaborators receive a URL that works for a set period before expiring. ZIP downloads are created on-demand and include all the files you’ve selected.

Collaborators receive these links via email or in-app notifications, and can download the files directly without needing their own Dropbox accounts.

Producer Dashboard creates three main subfolders within your PRODUCER-DASHBOARD folder:

  • projects — Contains project files and session data
  • bounces — Holds finished mixes and exports ready for sharing
  • stems — Stores individual stems and isolated tracks

When you share files, Producer Dashboard references the appropriate folder based on what you’re sharing. You don’t need to manually organize these folders — the app handles the path construction automatically.

Dropbox uses OAuth tokens to verify your identity when making API requests. Producer Dashboard manages these tokens securely:

  • Automatic refresh — If your token expires, the app refreshes it automatically so sharing continues without interruption
  • Secure storage — Tokens are encrypted and stored on secure servers
  • Per-user isolation — Each user’s tokens are kept separate and are never shared between accounts

You don’t need to manually manage or rotate tokens. The system handles this in the background.

If connecting fails, check that:

  • You’re signed into the correct Dropbox account in your browser
  • Dropbox is not experiencing an outage (check the Dropbox status page)
  • Your browser allows popups from Producer Dashboard

If collaborators report broken links:

  • The link may have expired (share links are time-limited for security)
  • Regenerate a new share link from the track or project
  • Ensure your Dropbox connection is still active in Settings

If you see permission errors when sharing:

  • Verify your Dropbox account still has access to the PRODUCER-DASHBOARD folder
  • Check that you haven’t exceeded your Dropbox storage limit
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting your Dropbox account
