Managing Dropbox Connection
Connecting Dropbox to Producer Dashboard unlocks your ability to share tracks with collaborators. Without a linked Dropbox account, you won’t be able to generate share links, create ZIP downloads, or invite collaborators to shared folders.
Why Dropbox Is Required
Section titled “Why Dropbox Is Required”Producer Dashboard uses Dropbox as the backbone for all file sharing operations. When you share a track with another producer, Dropbox generates a temporary download link that your collaborator can use to grab the files.
Here’s what becomes possible with a connected Dropbox:
- Share links — Generate time-limited download URLs for any track or collection of stems
- ZIP downloads — Package multiple files together for collaborators to download
- Collaborator invites — Send direct Dropbox invitations to shared folders
- Auto-import for collaborators — Your shared tracks automatically appear in collaborators’ connected Dropbox folders
All other file import and sync functionality now happens locally through the desktop app, which means faster, more reliable access to your files without cloud delays.
Connecting Your Dropbox Account
Section titled “Connecting Your Dropbox Account”You’ll connect Dropbox through the Settings panel. Look for the Dropbox section where you can initiate the connection flow.
Steps to Connect
Section titled “Steps to Connect”- Open Settings from the main navigation
- Select Integrations or Connected Accounts in the sidebar
- Find the Dropbox option and click Connect
- A popup window opens asking you to authorize Producer Dashboard
- Sign in to your Dropbox account if prompted
- Click Allow to grant the necessary permissions
- The popup closes and your connection status updates to show “Connected”
The authorization asks for access to your files, metadata, and sharing features. These permissions let Producer Dashboard create share links and manage folder sharing on your behalf.
What Happens After You Connect
Section titled “What Happens After You Connect”Once authorized, Producer Dashboard automatically creates a folder structure in your Dropbox:
- PRODUCER-DASHBOARD — Your root folder for all app-related files
- PRODUCER-DASHBOARD/projects — Where shared project files live
- PRODUCER-DASHBOARD/bounces — Stores rendered mixes and masters
- PRODUCER-DASHBOARD/stems — Individual track stems for collaborations
If you’re using a Dropbox Business or team account, the folders appear inside your personal home folder (for example, /Your Name/PRODUCER-DASHBOARD).
Checking Your Connection Status
Section titled “Checking Your Connection Status”You can verify your Dropbox connection at any time from the Settings panel.
In the Dropbox section of Settings, you’ll see:
- Connection status — Whether your account is currently linked
- Account type — Personal or team/business account
- Account email — The Dropbox email associated with your connection
- Folder location — The path where your Producer Dashboard folders are stored
If your connection is active, you’ll see a green indicator or “Connected” badge. If anything looks off, you can reconnect by repeating the connection steps.
Refreshing Your Connection
Section titled “Refreshing Your Connection”Dropbox access tokens can expire over time. If your connection status shows as disconnected or if sharing features aren’t working, try reconnecting:
- Click Disconnect in the Dropbox section
- Wait a moment, then click Connect again
- Reauthorize through the Dropbox popup
- Verify that your status updates back to connected
Reconnecting preserves your folder structure. Producer Dashboard will recognize your account and continue using the same Dropbox folders.
Disconnecting Your Dropbox
Section titled “Disconnecting Your Dropbox”If you no longer want Producer Dashboard linked to your Dropbox:
- Open Settings and navigate to your connected accounts
- Find the Dropbox entry
- Click Disconnect or Remove
- Confirm when prompted
Disconnecting removes the authorization token from Producer Dashboard. Your actual files in Dropbox remain untouched — only the app’s access to those files is revoked. If you reconnect later, everything picks up where you left off.
Dropbox for Teams
Section titled “Dropbox for Teams”If you’re on a Dropbox Business or team account, your files sync within your personal Dropbox space rather than a shared team folder. This keeps your Producer Dashboard files private to your account while still enabling collaboration through share links.
When you share a track with a collaborator, they receive a Dropbox invite to a shared folder. They can accept this invite to mount the folder in their own Dropbox, giving them direct access to the files you share.
The automatic folder mounting process handles this for collaborators — once they connect their own Dropbox and accept your invitation, the shared files appear in their account automatically.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The connection popup didn’t open. Check that your browser allows popups from Producer Dashboard. You may need to enable popups temporarily or click the Connect button again.
I’m not seeing the folder structure in my Dropbox. The folders are created automatically during connection. If they don’t appear immediately, try refreshing your Dropbox view. If they still don’t show up after a few minutes, reconnect your account.
My token appears expired even though I’m still connected. Tokens can occasionally need refreshing. Use the reconnect flow to reauthorize and restore full access without losing your folder structure.
- Connect once and forget — You only need to set up Dropbox connection once. After that, sharing happens seamlessly in the background.
- Check connection before big sessions — If you plan to share files with collaborators, verify your Dropbox is connected before starting. This prevents hiccups when you’re ready to send tracks.
- Team accounts work fine — If your studio uses Dropbox Business, you’re good to go. Your Producer Dashboard files stay in your personal space while sharing still works normally.
