PRO & IPI Info
Your PRO (Performance Rights Organization) membership is how you get paid when your music plays on the radio, streams online, or gets performed live. In Producer Dashboard, you can keep all your PRO and publisher information in one place — making it easy to assign the right royalty collection details to every track you release.
This section lives under Settings and covers everything from adding your ASCAP or BMI membership to linking your IPI/CAE number so publishers and collaborators can verify your ownership stake in a song.
What Is a PRO?
Section titled “What Is a PRO?”A Performance Rights Organization (PRO) collects performance royalties on behalf of songwriters and publishers when their music gets played publicly. Different PROs operate in different territories:
- ASCAP — The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers
- BMI — Broadcast Music, Inc.
- SESAC — Society of European Stage Authors & Composers
- PRS for Music — UK and Ireland
- SOCAN — Canada
- GMR — Global Music Rights
If you write and produce music, you need to be registered with at least one PRO. Some producers also register with multiple PROs if they work internationally or want to compare royalty rates.
Adding a PRO Membership
Section titled “Adding a PRO Membership”To add your first PRO membership, open Settings and click PRO & IPI Info in the sidebar menu.
- Click the Add PRO button
- Select your PRO from the Organization dropdown (e.g., ASCAP, BMI, SESAC)
- Choose the Organization Type — either Writer or Publisher
- Enter your Membership Number — this is the number PROs assign when you register
- Optionally, enter your IPI/CAE Number (more on this below)
- Select your Territory if you want to specify which region this membership covers
- Toggle Set as Primary if this should be your main PRO for royalty collection
- Click Save
Your membership appears in the list below. You can add multiple PROs if you work with more than one organization — producers who release internationally often maintain registrations across several territories.
What Is an IPI/CAE Number?
Section titled “What Is an IPI/CAE Number?”An IPI (Interested Parties Information) or CAE (Copyright Assignment Entry) number is a unique identifier that tracks you as a creative professional across the global music industry. Think of it as your social security number for royalties.
Your IPI number stays with you even if you switch PROs. Publishers, collaborators, and distribution services use this number to ensure you receive credit and payment whenever your songs are used.
When you register with a PRO, they typically assign you an IPI/CAE number automatically. You can usually find it on your PRO portal or membership documents. Entering it here lets Producer Dashboard include it when you export track metadata — helpful when dealing with publishers or content ID systems.
Managing Your PRO Memberships
Section titled “Managing Your PRO Memberships”Once you’ve added a PRO membership, the list displays key details at a glance:
- Organization name and type (Writer or Publisher)
- Your membership number
- Territory
- Primary status
- Date added
Editing a Membership
Section titled “Editing a Membership”Click the pencil icon next to any membership to update its details. You might do this if your membership number changes, you move territories, or you want to add an IPI number you didn’t have when you first registered.
Deleting a Membership
Section titled “Deleting a Membership”Click the trash icon to remove a PRO membership. You’ll see a confirmation prompt — deletion is permanent. Only delete a membership if you’ve completely left that PRO or if you added it incorrectly.
Setting Your Primary PRO
Section titled “Setting Your Primary PRO”When you register with multiple PROs, you can designate one as Primary. This is the main organization you work with for royalty collection.
Only one PRO can be primary at a time. If you set a new membership as primary, any previous primary designation is automatically removed — this is normal and ensures your records stay consistent.
Setting a primary PRO is useful when:
- You’re comparing royalty rates between organizations
- You primarily operate in one territory but have secondary registrations elsewhere
- A label or distributor asks which PRO to list first on documentation
You can change your primary selection anytime by editing any membership and toggling the Set as Primary option.
PRO Information and Track Metadata
Section titled “PRO Information and Track Metadata”When you export track metadata from Producer Dashboard, your PRO memberships are included in the export file. This comes in handy when:
- You’re sending track information to a music publisher
- A label requests your registration details for a sync deal
- You’re cataloging your registrations ahead of tax season
Keeping your PRO info up to date in Settings means you never have to scramble for these details when opportunities arise.
Publishers vs. Writers
Section titled “Publishers vs. Writers”You’ll notice the Organization Type field gives you two choices: Writer or Publisher.
- Writer — you are registered directly with the PRO as the songwriter
- Publisher — you work for or own a publishing company that administers your catalog
Most independent producers start as Writers. If you’ve also set up a publishing entity or work with a publishing administrator, you might register that separately as a Publisher membership.
If you’re unsure which applies to you, check with your PRO directly — they can clarify your registration type and what it means for your royalty collection.
